Run For U!   Run For U 46!

By now you have probably already heard about the Run For U 46 to be held on October 23rd at Bartlett High School, but, just in case this is news to you, here are some reasons why this 5K fundraising run should be on your calendar!

First, the Run For U 46  is the U-46 Educational Foundation’s first major fundraising event. When you participate in the run, you are not only doing something great for the students, teachers, and staff of School District U-46, you are also taking part in history!  Five years from now, at a future Run For U 46, you will be able to tell everyone, "I was at the very first run!"

Next, your participation doesn't just benefit others, it benefits you too! Did you know that running and walking can improve your mood, reduce stress, and boost your immune system? When you participate in the Run For U 46, you can feel good about helping others and helping yourself too! Plus, when the race is over, you will not feel guilty about treating yourself to a big breakfast!

Finally, your support will make a difference for U-46 students, teachers, and staff. Last year, the U-46 Educational Foundation proudly awarded more than  $21,000 in grants and $52,000 in scholarships. However, without continued fundraising and generous support from the U-46 community, this volume of grant awards will not be sustainable. Your support of this event will send a clear message to your friends, family, and community that opportunities like teacher/staff grants and student scholarships are important to you and vital to our District.

How Did You Help More Than 18,000 Children?

Did you know that there are 18,744 children age birth to 5 years within the U-46 communities? For the past 10 years, the Elgin Partnership for Early Learning (EPEL) has been dedicated to making sure all of these children are happy, healthy, and prepared to learn by the time they start kindergarten.

One of the ways they do this is through their free Getting Ready for Kindergarten family activity calendars distributed to local schools, libraries, child care centers, and community organizations.  These calendars have daily activities that help develop and strengthen the skills children need to succeed in kindergarten, but the impact of these calendars doesn't end at kindergarten.  Children with high-quality early learning are 25 percent more likely to graduate from high school!

Because we recognize and appreciate the impact of EPEL's work on our incoming U-46 students, the U-46 Educational Foundation was excited to be able to support EPEL's work this summer with a $1,000 grant.   This grant will enable them to continue their service to U-46 children.

Thank you to the U-46 families, employees, alumni, and community members who give so generously to the U-46 Educational Foundation throughout the year!    Your support makes grants like this one possible for our U-46 students today and tomorrow!
