The Run For U-46 Returns!

Last year, the U-46 Educational Foundation was proud to present our first ever large fundraising event, the Run For U-46, 5K.  Hundreds of people of all ages came out to run or walk in support of U-46 students, teachers, and staff.  Local area businesses sponsored the Run.  Many friends showed up to volunteer, and student cheerleaders, dancers, and musicians were present to entertain the crowds.  Thank you!  In our eyes, you were all superheroes, even those of you who decided to run without your capes!

Your enthusiasm and excitement for the Run was so motivating that we cannot wait to do it all over again this year. Please join us again (or for the first time!) at the Run For U-46!

$25K in Grants for U-46 Teachers & Staff, $11K for Community Partners

Every year at this time our teachers, staff, and community partners approach the U-46 Educational Foundation for grants to fund their innovative projects and ideas.  We are excited to report that the U-46 Educational Foundation has $25,000 in grant funds available this year for our teachers and staff and more than $11,000 available for our community partners.

Last year, one of our grants funded an after-school volleyball club at a school where 76% of the students come from low-income homes.  Another grant purchased raised garden beds for students at Prairieview Elementary School, allowing students to conduct hands-on science experiments with plants.  A third grant provided needed funds to Elgin High School's Gamers Club and Esports team so they could have the equipment they needed to sustain and build their program.

Act now!  The deadline for teachers, staff, and community partners to submit a 2022 grant proposal is September 30.

Welcome, Matthew!

The U-46 Educational Foundation would like to welcome our newest Board Member, Matthew Punnoose, the owner and founder of PMTrust LLC.

Matthew is a U-46 parent and a long-time supporter of the Foundation.  Last year, he ran in our inaugural Run For U-46 5K, and he served on our Scholarship Selection Committee.  Matthew also attended our Superintendent's Scholarship Reception in April where he had the pleasure of meeting several of the 2022 Superintendent Scholarship recipients.

We are excited about working with Matthew, and we are so grateful for his desire to serve!

Thank You!

In June, the Seigle Foundation generously gave the U-46 Educational Foundation a $50,000 grant to fund the Superintendent's Scholarship.  Since 2012, the Superintendent's Scholarship program has provided more than 250 U-46 seniors with college scholarships.   All scholarship recipients stand out academically and as leaders within their schools and communities.  In addition, every Superintendent's Scholarship recipient is a first-generation college student.

Also, this week the Elgin Golden K Kiwanis club surprised our superintendent, Dr. Sanders, with a $2,000 donation to the Superintendent's Scholarship program (see picture).

Our heartfelt thanks go out to the Seigle Foundation and to the Elgin Golden K Kiwanis for their generous support of the Superintendent's Scholarship!

More Thanks!

The U-46 Educational Foundation was extremely grateful to receive the donation of hundreds of new backpacks this summer to benefit U-46 students in need.   Many U-46 students received their new backpacks before or during the first week of school.

Backpack donations came from the parishioners at St Walter's Catholic Church in Roselle (see picture) and the associates at Carmax in Schaumburg through the Carmax Cares program.  Thank you to Donna Burke at St. Walter's and Jaci Mash at Carmax for organizing the backpack drives, and thank you to all of the kind donors!

Celebrating 15 Years

The U-46 Educational Foundation is proud to mark our 15-year anniversary and continued commitment to U-46 this year.  All year we have been reflecting on how the Foundation has grown, changed, and impacted our students since 2007.  In this newsletter, we are looking back on grants.

The Foundation awarded its first grant in 2008 to support an Author's Festival held by Gail Borden, Poplar Creek, and Bartlett libraries. The festival showcased the works of student authors from several U-46 elementary, middle, and high schools.

Thanks to your support, the Foundation has awarded more than half a million dollars in grants since 2008 to numerous U-46 teachers, staff, schools, and community partners, funding projects large and small.   We could not have done it without you, thank you!
