Last year, your donations helped bring out the inner SUPERHEROES in our U-46 Moms and Dads!

During the 2019/2020 school year, a grant from the U-46 Educational Foundation funded the "Best Start" ten-week parent education series by the International Child Development Program (ICDP).  This evidence-based program uses eight guidelines to strengthen relationships between parents/caregivers and their children.  After going through the program, one mom said the program helped her, "...address the things that I knew needed to change, but didn't know how."  This was just one of several grants funded by the U-46 Foundation during the 2019/2020 school year.

The Foundation is once again excited and honored to be able to support our teachers and staff by funding their innovative ideas.  This school year, thanks to your generosity, we have over $25,000 in grant funds available for our teachers and staff!

If you are a U-46 teacher or staff member, please let us know how we can support your creative and impactful ideas.   If you are a U-46 parent or community member, let your teachers know that the Foundation is here for them.    Together, we are all superheroes making a difference for U-46!

Welcome, Benjamin Bernal!

The U-46 Educational Foundation is thrilled to welcome Benjamin Bernal to our Board of Directors.  Mr. Bernal is the Director of Sales for KCT Credit in Elgin.   He also serves as a trustee for the Fox River Water Reclamation District.

Mr. Bernal lives in Elgin with his wife and their two children.  Next year, his older child will be starting school at Otter Creek Elementary.   He is a graduate of Elgin High School, and, of course, he told us he is, "proud to be a Maroon!"

Bernal wanted to be a part of the U-46 Educational Foundation Board, "to support the development of teachers and student initiatives."

He also told us, "Supporting the U-46 Educational Foundation is investing in the future of the kids and teachers in our community.   If you're a parent, student, or business and want to see our local community grow with opportunities, it starts with education."

We are proud to have Benjamin on our team!

Thank You, ComEd, an Exelon Company!

Back in February, the Foundation received a $50,000 grant from ComEd, an Exelon Company, to purchase two new electric cars for our Driver's Ed program.  This fall the District was able to purchase those cars.  Thank you to ComEd, an Exelon Company! We are looking forward to the day when we can get students back behind the wheel!

More Thanks -

We would also like to thank:

  • Fischer Technical Company/United Scientific for their recent donation of 4,000 masks!

When given the opportunity to donate masks, John Gura, a Fischer Technical employee and U-46 Dad, wanted these masks to go to U-46 because he is grateful for the "excellent experiences" his sons have had at Bartlett High School and Elgin High School.

  • Mu Alpha Theta, the Math Honors Society at Larkin High School, and their sponsor, Liam Keigher, for their recent donation.

  • George Kantzavelos, another BHS Dad, for donating a piano to Bartlett High School.

Become a monthly contributor!

By becoming a monthly contributor, your tax-deductible contribution will be charged directly to your credit or debit card every month - automatically.   No checks, no envelopes, no stamps, and no need to remember to donate! Just direct support to our students and schools. Plus, you can break a bigger donation into small, manageable monthly contributions.

Supporting Project Backpack

Once again, the U-46 Educational Foundation was proud to sponsor Elgin Community College's Project Backpack program this year with a $1,500 grant.

For the past ten years, Project Backpack has kicked off the school year by collecting and distributing school supplies to students in need.  This year, even with school starting remotely, Project Backpack distributed over 1,500 backpacks.

This program is important to the U-46 Foundation because, even at home, we want all U-46 students to have all of the tools they need to fully participate in school.

You can read more about Project Backpack and the adjustments they made in their school supply distribution program this year here.
